Cawood earns Senior POTY honor

Tom Cawood

Denison's Tom Cawood was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Senior Men's Tennis Player of the Year for the Central Region after going 14-3 at the top singles flight.

Cawood has spent two of his four year in Granville as the No. 1 singles player for the Big Red.  As a sophomore, he went 14-5 at the first flight en route to a 15-10 overall mark.  This season, the senior was 18-4 overall and 14-3 at No. 1 singles.  Last week, Cawood earned first-team All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors in both singles and doubles.  During his four-year tenure at Denison, he has earned four All-NCAC certificates, including three first-team awards.  On April 9, Cawood was named NCAC Player of the Week after going a combined 4-0 in singles and doubles play.

Over the course of his career, Cawood had compiled 53 singles victories, including 28 at the first flight.  He also boasts a 34-14 mark in double competition, with 15 of those wins coming at second doubles.

Last week, the senior was selected to compete at the 2012 NCAA Division III Singles Championship for the first time in his career.  The championship will be held May 24-26 at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C.  The draw will be done by the men's tennis committee and will be released on the last day of the team championship.
