Top-ranked Denison downs #9 Carnegie Mellon

GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Top-ranked Denison men's swimming & diving defeated ninth-ranked Carnegie Mellon 159-130 on Senior Day from the Trumbull Aquatics Center.  The Big Red placed first in nine events, as eight different individuals accounted for DU's victories.

In the sprint freestyle events, Zach Wagner led Denison with a time of 21.14 in the 50 free.  Kenny Fox followed right behind in 21.15.  In the 100 free, Max Howes led the field with a winning time of 46.43 while Stuart Hohm checked in at 46.73.  In the 200 free, Hohm was victorious in 1:41.94 while Ryan Stevenson checked in second at 1:42.78.

Jack Lindell won the 200 backstroke, touching in 1:52.87.  He also posted a time of 1:55.60 while swimming exhibition in the 200 IM.

In the 100 backstroke, it was Jason Wesseling and Bebe Wang who went 1-2 respectively in the standings.  Wesseling touched in 51.67 and Wang ended with a time of 53.18.

Aaron Saccurato was the winner in the 200 butterfly after a time of 1:55.43 and Matthew Hedman held down the top spot in the 1,000 free after a time of 9:43.88.

The first win of the day came in the 200 medley relay as Wesseling, Tiernan Foster-Smith, Liam Marsden-Readford and Max Howes combined for a winning time of 1:32.94.

At the diving well, Max Levy swept the 3-meter and 1-meter boards.  Both competitions were 11-dives and Levy finished the 3-meter with a score of 533.05 and won the 1-meter with a score of 566.03.  Brian Allen placed second on both boards as well.  In the 3-meter he finished with a score 517.20 while totaling 504.38 on the 1-meter board.

Prior to the start of the meet, Denison recognized its five senior members, Brian Allen, Max Howes, Max Levy, Jack Lindell and Tim Smith.

Denison is back in action next Saturday, Jan. 28 when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for their final dual meet of the season.
