GRANVILLE, Ohio—Top-ranked Denison suffered a 158-142 loss to visiting IUPUI on Friday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.  The Big Red trailed the Division I Jaguars by 11 points heading into the final event, the 400-yard freestyle relay.

To win the meet, Denison needed to lock up first and second place in the relay to erase the deficit.  IUPUI's team of Jackson Sandala, Lennart Kuester, Trenton Wolfe and Jared Allen beat Denison's top relay entry to the wall with a time of 3:05.35 to lock up the meet victory.  Denison's team of Kenny Fox, Trent Schulten, Eric Gerlach and Max Howes posted a time of 3:06.27.  The Big Red also locked down third-place as Kymani Senior, Stuart Hohm, Walter Dauksher and Aaron Saccurato ended in 3:09.85.

Denison did log seven event victories, led by senior Jack Lindell's three wins.  Lindell locked down first place finishes in the 200 IM (1:52.95), the 200 backstroke (1:51.54) and the 200 butterfly (1:52.80).  In the 200 fly, Francis Biagioli touched third and Bebe Wang followed with a second place finish in the 200 back (1:53.11) and a third place showing in the 200 IM (1:54.67).

In the 100 backstroke, Wang won the race with a time of 52.05.  Tiernan Foster-Smith followed in the 100 breaststroke with a first place time of 58.01.

Denison's other individual swimming win came from Liam Marsden-Readford in the 100 butterfly as he touched in 51.00.

In diving, Big Red senior Max Levy won the 1-meter board with a six-dive score of 336.83.  He returned in the 3-meter to place second with a score of 345.00.  Denison's Brian Allen tallied 243.98 points on the 1-meter to place fifth.  He turned in a fourth place finish on the 3-meter after a score of 264.45.

In the sprint freestyle races, Fox took second in the 50 free in 21.13 while Gerlach placed third in 21.58.  Fox returned with a fourth-place showing in the 100 free with a time of 46.86.

Hohm posted Denison's best times in the 200 and 500 freestyles.  In the 200, Hohm was the runner-up with a time of 1:42.28.  He touched third in the 500 free after a time of 4:42.14.

In the 200 breaststroke, Jake Ball paced DU with a second-place time of 2:09.71.  In the first individual race of the meet, Ben Burdick finished third in the 1,000 free in 9:42.96.  Prior to the 1,000 free, PJ Desmet, Foster-Smith, Fox and Howes placed second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.26.

Denison returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 with a tri-meet against Pitt and Florida State in Pittsburgh, Pa.  The meet will begin at 11 a.m. from Trees Pool on the Pitt campus.
