Dixson and Lewis punch ticket to nationals

Denison divers Gabe Dixson and Ben Lewis will represent the Big Red at the 2013 NCAA Division III Championship after their stellar performances at this weekend's NCAA Diving Regional hosted by Calvin College.

For Dixson, this will mark his third-consecutive appearance at nationals.  The senior is coming off All-American performances in the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in both 2011 and 2012.  In the 3-meter board at this weekend's first-ever NCAA Regional, he placed third with an 11-dive score of 529.55.  In Saturday night's 1-meter board he placed fourth with a score of 469.75.

Lewis, who is fresh off a North Coast Athletic Conference Diver of the Year award, turned in a second-place finish in the 1-meter board with a score of 504.25.  On Friday night he took sixth in the 3-meter after posting a score of 487.45.

Also competing at the NCAA Regional was Connor Dorff and Matt Poulos of Denison.  Dorff posted a 13th place finish in the 1-meter and a 16th place finish in the 3-meter with scores of 423.35 and 430.10, respectively.   Meanwhile, Poulos placed 20th in both events, totaling a score of 405.45 in the 3-meter and a score of 377.95 in the 1-meter.

Dixson and Lewis will travel with the Denison swimmers to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship in Shennadoah, Texas on March 20-23.
