DU lands nine on All-NCAC team
Denison junior long stick midfielder Austin Campbell was named North Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year, highlighting a list of nine Denison all-conference honorees.
Campbell earned first-team All-NCAC laurels for the second-straight season after anchoring the nation's top defense. The junior finished the season with 59 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers, both team-bests. Campbell also scored four goals and added two assists.
Joining Campbell on the first team were junior attack Eddie Vita, junior midfielder Chapin Speidel and senior defender Spencer Riehl. A second-team all-league selection in 2012, Vita led the team in goals (28) and assists (19). He also co-led the conference in game-winning goals (4) and man-up goals (9). Speidel finished second on the squad with 26 goals and was third in points with 34, while Riehl finished second on the team in caused turnovers and fourth in ground balls (47).
Four more Big Red athletes earned second-team honors. Sophomore Teddy Powell and freshman Blair Farinholt combined to score 36 goals and dish out 26 assists. Powell co-led the team with 19 assists, while Farinholt recorded 20 points in his debut season. Junior Tommy Harrison scooped up 34 ground balls and caused 16 turnovers in 16 games. Face-off specialist Chip Phillips won 123-of-190 face-offs. He also collected 50 ground balls and scored three times.
Sophomore defender Drew Newman earned honorable mention all-conference accolades. Newman scooped up 15 ground balls and caused 15 turnovers in 15 starts.
