GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison senior Jonathan Taylor won medalist honors for the second-consecutive tournament after his rounds of 71 and 74 led the field of 50 golfers at the Ted Barclay Invitational at Denison Golf Club. The Big Red placed third as a team.
After an even-par 71 on Saturday, Taylor got off to an excellent start, birdieing two of his first five holes. He made the turn with an even-par 35 and carded a 39 on the back for a 74. His lone birdie on the back came on the 504 yard par-5 12th. Taylor leads this year's squad with a 74.3 scoring average in 10 rounds play. This marked his second win and fifth top-20 finish in 2016-17.
Knox Montgomery logged a top-10 finish by carding a 77 on Sunday. He finished with a 36-hole total of 152 (76, 77). Christian Early tied for 16th with a 155 (77, 78) while Nick Brodbeck followed up his 79 on Saturday with a 78 on Sunday.
Denison posted a 307 on Sunday to finish with a two-day total of 608. They were five shots behind second-place Ohio Dominican and 11 strokes off the winning pace set by Ohio Wesleyan.
The Big Red also had some strong rounds turned in by some team members who were entered as individuals. Jack Mitchell tied for 8th overall after rounds of 78 and 74. Connor Holleran carded a 76 on Sunday to finish in a tie for 16th. Daniel Hirsh shot a 78 in the final round and Robbie Whitman followed with a 79.
Denison will return to action on April 22-23 at the first of two events of the NCAC Championship Series in Meadville, Pa.
