GRANVILLE, Ohio--  Maxwell Siwik scored 24 points and added 11 rebounds in Denison's 82-69 win over the University of Chicago on Sunday afternoon at Livingston Gymnasium.

Denison led most of the way and had a 19-point lead in the second half after building a 47-32 advantage at halftime.  Siwik scored 19 of his career-high 24 points in the first half.  He was 8-of-12 from the field in the opening stanza.

In the second half, with 12 minutes to play, Claude Chandonnet's 3-pointer put Denison up 16.  Chicago responded with an 8-0 run over the next two minutes to make it a 59-51 game with 10:20 remaining.  The two teams traded baskets over the next three minutes but Collin Barthel's jumper got the Maroons to within seven.

On the heels of Barthel's shot, Denison's Jack Coulter came back to the other end and canned a big 3-pointer to give the Big Red a double-figure lead once again.  The Maroons never got any closer as Denison improved to 7-4 while Chicago dropped to 4-7.

Siwik was 10-for-21 for 24 points in 34 minutes. He also led DU on the glass with 11 rebounds while chipping in four assists.  Garrett Collier tallied 15 points, five assists and five rebounds in 29 minutes.  Chandonnet added 14 points and Coulter finished with 10.

Barthel paced Chicago with 17 points while Noah Karras added 13.  Denison shot 47 percent from the field while Chicago finished at 44 percent.

The Big Red returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 3 when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for an 8 p.m. tipoff against the Battling Bishops.
