GRANVILLE, Ohio-- The Denison men's basketball team made their debut in the D3hoops.com Top-25 poll on Monday after picking up a pair of North Coast Athletic Conference victories over then No. 11 Wooster and Kenyon. Denison is ranked 25th with 73 points and is one of just two nationally ranked schools from the NCAC.
Coming off a 2015-16 season that saw the Big Red capture its first North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament championship and advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the first time since 1997, this year's squad is off to their best start in recent history at 6-0.
Led by seniors Jett Speelman (19.2 ppg) and David Meurer (13.1 ppg) Denison is outscoring opponents by nearly 10 points per game. They are the only unbeaten team in the NCAC at 6-0, 2-0 0 where they sit alone atop the conference standings. On Monday, Speelman picked up his second-straight NCAC Player of the Week honor. Over his last four games, he is averaging just under 20 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game.
The Big Red travels to Oberlin on Wednesday, Dec. 7 for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off against the Yeomen. They will follow that with road games at Wittenberg (Dec. 10) and at Captial (Dec. 14) before breaking for finals and the holidays.
