Denison junior Alex Longi was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday. As a first-team Academic All-District selection, Longi will move on to the national ballot for the Academic All-America squad.
A mathematics and economics double major with a 3.98 grade point average, Longi is in his third season as a starter for the Big Red. On Monday he was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week after leading the Big Red to wins over Oberlin and Wabash. Longi is averaging 10.4 points per game and 4.4 rebounds per game while starting 19 of 20 games.
Last spring he was the recipient of the Ted Barclay Top-Five Award at the annual Student-Athlete Awards Banquet. The Ted Barclay Award is presented to the five Denison student athletes who have the five highest grade point averages across the college's 23 varsity sports.
