Balanced effort leads Big Red past Yeomen

Four players scored in double-figures as Denison pulled away from Oberlin College for a 77-62 victory in Granville.

The Big Red took its first lead midway through the first half and led by nine at the intermission, 40-31.  With nine minutes to play in the game, the Yeomen cut the deficit to 50-47 after a basket inside by the 6'9" Randy Ollie.

At the other end, Briggs King knocked down a 3-pointer that would spark an 11-0 run for Denison.  With 5:21 to play, DU found themselves with a 14-point lead and full control of the game.  Over the final nine minutes of the contest Denison outscored Oberlin 27-15.

It was a balanced scoring effort from Denison who got 19 points, seven rebounds and six assists from junior Alex LongiDimonde Hale followed with 18 points and three assists while Brad Woolard added a career-high 13 points while going 5-of-7 from the field and 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.  King followed with 11 points and DJ Bridges chipped in a career-high seven points in 16 minutes off the bench.

Andrew Fox led Oberlin with 19 points, 10 rebounds and four assists.  He was 9-of-13 from the field in his 33 minutes of action.  Geoff Simpson followed with 17 points and six rebounds.

DU shot 51 percent from the field and was 16-of-24 (.667) from the charity stripe.  They edged Oberlin on the glass, 31-29 and shot 5-of-18 from 3-point range.  Oberlin shot 46 percent from the field and connected on 7-of-8 from the free throw line.

Denison improves to 6-12 overall and moves to 4-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while the Yeomen drop to 4-14 and 2-7 in conference play.  The Big Red will host Wabash College on Saturday (Jan. 26) at 3 p.m.
