Denison rolls over Yeowomen

Alex W. Berman helped lead Denison to its second shutout win of the season.
Alex W. Berman helped lead Denison to its second shutout win of the season.

Three first half goals, including a pair by Katie McMahon, and two additional tallies in the second half would be enough to push Denison past Oberlin, 5-0 on Friday afternoon.

Sophomore Britta Marden opened the scoring in the 14th minute off an assist from senior Taylor Bacon.  McMahon, who is the reigning North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, notched back-to-back goals in the 20th and 34th minutes of the opening half. The senior's third score came off an assist from Bacon.

In the second half, Tonie Michaels found Alex B. Berman for the fourth goal of the contest and in the 57th minute, McMahon sent a pass to Greta Finney that was converted successfully.

Posting her second shutout of the season was senior goalkeeper Laura Campbell.  DU outshot Oberlin 14-5 but Campbell was there to post three saves in her 70 minutes of action.  In addition to holding a large advantage in shots, DU attempted a season-high 19 penalty corners while their opponents attempted five.

This marked the fifth time this season that Denison has scored at least four goals in a match.  At 8-1 overall and 6-1 in the NCAC, the Big Red sits alone in second-place in the conference standings, trailing only first-place DePauw who is 6-0.

Denison will be back in action tomorrow when they host Ohio Wesleyan at 11 a.m.
