Isabelle Howes scored off a deflection with 16 seconds remaining in regulation, propelling The College of Wooster to a come from behind 2-1 win over Denison on Tuesday afternoon.
The Scots trailed 1-0 until late in the second half. With just under six minutes remaining, Nikki Sever tied the score at 1-1 with her first goal of the season when she deflected in a goal off a shot by Shelby Stone.
After the goal by Wooster, Denison went on the offensive and Catie Merrick, who scored DU's lone goal in the first half, took a shot with the Scots' goalie out of the cage. The shot nearly snuck through, but Wooster's Brittany Braun was there for the timely defensive save with 3:15 to play.
With 1:54 to play, Denison's Brittany Benson turned in her sixth save of the game but with 13 seconds left the Fighting Scots drew a penalty corner attempt that was played in by Nikki Sever.
The initial shot by Clare Nelson-Johnson caromed off the right post but Howes was there to gather the loose ball off the deflection and send the shot in for the win.
Wooster edged Denison in total shot attempts, 14-11 while six saves were made by each team. The two squads also tied with six penalty corner attempts apiece.
Merrick's goal in the first half was the ninth of the season and the 63rd of her career.
Denison drops to 7-4 overall and 5-3 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while Wooster improves to 6-5 and 5-3 in league play. DU will return to action on Friday with a 4:30 p.m. start at Oberlin College.
