2017 Bowl of the Stars Box Score

Tijuana, Mexico – Denison seniors Charlie Mueller and Alex Raynor represented the Big Red football program this past Saturday when they played for Team Stars & Stripes in the 20th annual Tazón De Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) at CETYS University in Tijuana, Mexico.

Team Stars & Stripes, a team consisting of 40 different NCAA Division III football players, surrendered a 24-point third-quarter lead and lost to the CONADEIP All-Stars by a score of 28-24 at the Margarita Aztiazarán de Fimbres Stadium.

With Team Stars & Stripes holding a 24-0 lead with 16 seconds to play in the third-quarter, CONADEIP's Diego Ruiz orchestrated three-straight drives that ended in two touchdown passes to Carlos Olvera and one to Robin Gonzalez. The All-Stars took the lead for good when Kevin Correa punched it in from three yards out to give Mexico three-consecutive wins in the Bowl of the Stars.

Recording nine tackles on the day, Raynor made his biggest splash in the second quarter when he intercepted a Ruiz pass and took it back 40 yards for another Team Stars & Stripes touchdown. Mueller finished the game with one catch for four yards and returned a kickoff for eight yards.

The team was led by Franklin College's Chase Burton who threw for 353 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, while Sam Markham (Central College) and William Woods (John Carroll University) combined for 26 catches, 264 yards and two touchdowns. CONADEIP's Ruiz finished with 199 passing yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, while Correa added 187 yards on the ground with a touchdown.
