Kuntz receives Capital One Academic All-District honor

Denison senior defensive end Teddy Kuntz was named to the Capital One Academic All-District® VII first-team as announced the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  As a first-team selection, Kuntz will advance to the national ballot for an opportunity to be named to the Capital One Academic All-America® team.

This is the first Academic All-District award for Kuntz who has started all eight games this season on the defensive line.  He is currently fifth on the team in tackles with 43.  He leads the team in sacks with 4.5 and tackles for a loss with eight.  In the Big Red's season opening win over Earlham, Kuntz recorded an interception that he returned 36 yards.  He has also blocked one kick this season.

Kuntz has played in 38-straight games while starting the last 18 contests.  Last year he led the team with seven sacks and was named to the North Coast Athletic Conference honorable mention team.  A biology major with a minor in chemistry, Kuntz has been honored at the annual James T. Glerum Top-50 Banquet in each of the last two years.

Kuntz and the Big Red will return to action tomorrow (Nov. 9) when they travel to Allegheny for a 2 p.m. kickoff against the Gators.  The 2014 Capital One Academic All-America® squad will be announced on Tuesday (Dec. 3).
