Denison junior center fielder Tanner Johnson was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Mideast Region third team on Tuesday afternoon. Johnson is the 16th player in program history to earn all-region honors and the first since 2011.
A two-time All-North Coast Athletic Conference selection, Johnson earned first-team honors for the first time in his career after hitting .383 on the year with 17 doubles, three triples and two home runs. The 2017 NCAC All-Tournament team selection swiped a team-high 21 bases and drew 25 free bases. Johnson was the team-leader with 38 runs batted in and was second with 46 runs scored. The Jefferson, Wis. native led the team with 20 multiple-hit performances and was the co-leader with 10 multi-RBI games.
The Big Red finished the season with a 29-12 record, which included a school-record 12-game winning streak that spanned three weeks (March 18-April 8). Those 29 victories are the second-most in program history.
