GRANVILLE, Ohio-- Denison's Phil Papaioannou was named to the Division III Academic All-District® team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. As an Academic All-District® selection, Papaioannou moves on to the national ballot with an opportunity to be elected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® team.
Papaioannou has played 33 games for the No. 24 ranked Denison baseball team in 2017. He is batting .347 with one home run, eight doubles, 26 RBIs and 33 runs scored. His only home run of the season came in the bottom of the ninth inning that led to a 2-1 win over Wabash on April 1.
He has played in 58 games at Denison and is a career .338 hitter. A mathematics major with a 3.89 grade point average, Papaioannou was recently awarded a Fulbright Research Scholarship that will take him to Poland following graduation. He was the recipient of the Larry Scheiderer Award which is given to the male varsity student-athlete with the top GPA. He was also a three-time honoree at Denison's James T. Glerum Top-50 Student-Athlete Honors Celebration.
