PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla.-- Denison rebounded from Sunday's pair of losses with a convincing 12-2 win over Amherst College. The Big Red jumped on Amherst early, taking an 8-1 lead after the first three frames. The offense came alive as all nine starters reached base and six of the nine recorded at least one hit.

Trailing by one in the bottom of the second, Denison applied pressure to the Amherst defense as Tanner Johnson started things off with a bunt single down the third base line. After an Evan Flax walk, Denison had runners at first and second with nobody out. Johnson and Flax executed a double steal and the Amherst catcher's throw sailed into left field allowing Johnson to score the Big Red's first run. Joseph Maydwell reached on a fielder's choice after a missed tag at second failed to record an out. With the bases loaded, Vince Walker hit into a 6-4 fielder's choice but an errant throw by the Amherst shortstop plated two more runs for the Big Red.

The offensive output continued in the following frame. Denison loaded the bases for Flax who sent a line drive to right center, scoring Noah Hahn and Tucker Davison. Blanchard followed with a single through the right side, plating Johnson and Flax. The final run to score in the inning came off a Joseph Maydwell single that scored Blanchard. After three innings, the Big Red held an 8-1 lead.

Denison scored two runs in the fourth and in the sixth. Johnson drove in two with a double in the fourth while Hahn stroked an RBI triple in the sixth, later scoring on a wild pitch.

Cody Mauri earned his second win in as many starts as the southpaw threw six innings of one-run baseball. The junior scattered six hits, struck out three and did not issue a walk. Andrew Bruss relieved Mauri and picked up the save by working the final three innings.

Four Denison batters had multi-hit games with Maydwell leading the charge with three. Blanchard and Johnson both went 2-for-33 with a pair of RBIs.

Anthony Spina and Harry Roberson paced the Amherst offense with two hits apiece. Davis Brown suffered the loss after allowing six runs in just over two innings of work.

The Big Red (4-2) continue their trip with a game against SUNY-Canton on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 1:30 p.m. in Port Charlotte.
