Denison junior pitcher Connor Murphy was named North Coast Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Week after helping the Big Red secure a spot in this week's NCAC Tournament in Chillicothe, Ohio.
Murphy played a pivotal role in Saturday's doubleheader sweep of Kenyon, clinching the Big Red's tournament spot. In game one, he entered in relief with one out in the sixth inning and held the Lords in check for 2.1 innings, allowing the Big Red to capture the victory in extra innings.
In the nightcap, Murphy returned to the hill to record his sixth complete-game performance, scattering eight hits, fanning two batters and allowing just two runs en route to the series-clinching victory. At the end of the day, Murphy threw 76 percent of his pitches for strikes (103 of 135).
Denison returns to the field on Thursday when they open NCAC Tournament play against Allegheny College. First pitch between the Big Red and Gators is slated for 1 p.m.
