Indoor golf facility opens at Denison
Denison University is happy to announce the grand opening of the Waddell Golf Facility in the newly renovated Mitchell Center. The multifaceted indoor training facility is believed to be one-of-a-kind at the NCAA Division III level.
The space features a high-definition video golf simulator that provides instant swing feedback to the logged-in golfer. All swing information is saved and cataloged, allowing reports to be generated for players and coaches at the conclusion of a training session. The simulator allows golfers to play courses from around the world, and it gives them the ability to hit on a virtual practice range. Another highlight of the facility is a life-like artificial putting green, complete with adjustable undulation and a fringe area for chipping.
The Waddell Facility, available only to members of Denison's men's and women's varsity golf programs, has two separate hitting stalls in addition to the putting area, allowing multiple team members to practice at once.
The area and equipment were made possible through generous gifts from members of the Waddell family. Donors include former Big Red golf standout Frederick Waddell '05 and his wife Caroline Grant Waddell '05, of Newton, Mass.; and Frederick's parents, Rick and Cate Waddell, and his brother Charlie Waddell, of Wilmette, Ill.
