NORFOLK, Va.-- The College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) has named 24 members of the Denison men's and women's swimming & diving teams to its Scholar All-America Team. In addition, both men's and women's programs received Scholar All-America recognition for posting team grade point averages of 3.00 or higher for the spring 2017 semester.
From the men's swimming & diving team, eleven individuals received first-team Scholar All-America honors while three earned honorable mention. The first-team members were Brian Allen, Ben Burdick, Carson Clear, Tiernan Foster-Smith, Eric Gerlach, Max Levy, Jack Lindell, Liam Marsden-Readford, Ryan Stevenson, Bebe Wang and Jason Wesseling. Honorable mention winners were Ryan Anderson, James Baker and Timmy Smith.
From the women's swimming & diving team, nine were named first-team Scholar All-America and one received honorable mention. The first-team recipients were Campbell Costley, Halli Garza, Erica Hsu, Carolyn Kane, Casey Kirby, KT Kustritz, Kate Mesaros, Hannah Rusinko and Natalie Zaravella. Senior diver Sarah Lopez was named to the honorable mention squad.
The Scholar All-America award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers who have achieved both academic and athletic excellence over the semester coinciding with their respective national championship. In order to be selected athletes must have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.50 or higher, be in good standing with their team and institution and be nominated by a CSCAA member. For the first-team status, individuals must have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship either as an individual or as part of a relay. For honorable mention, individuals must have achieved an individual "B" time standard or completed in their respective NCAA diving regional.
