GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.—Denison first-year Allison Fitzgerald debuted with a strong performance on the 1-meter board at the 2017 NCAA Division III Diving Regional hosted by Calvin College.
Fitzgerald posted an 11-dive score of 429.95 to finish second behind Sarah Bradley of Calvin. Fitzgerald averaged a score of 39.09 per dive. Her best score came on her final dive, an inward 1 ½ somersault pike (403B) that resulted in a 52.80 with a 2.4 degree of difficulty.
DU senior Sarah Lopez placed 10th with a score of 396.60 and Emma Weber checked in 12th at 393.25.
Denison's Max Levy and Brian Allen went 1-2 in the men's 3-meter dive. Allen was the overall leader through nine dives, but Levy's scores of 60.20 and 74.40 on his ninth and 10th dives, put him out in front by 10 points. Allen's final dive, a back 1 1/2 somersault 2 1/2 twist free (5235D) landed him 63 points. That put him back on top momentarilly. Levy closed with a 57.00 on his forward 2 1/2 somersault one twist pike. Levy finished with a score of 567 and Allen followed at 564.65. Denison first-year Michael Burke placed ninth at 458.80.
On Saturday, the women return for the 3-meter board at noon and the men will take the 1-meter board at 3:30 p.m. Watch the live stream here.
